    About This Piece

After a while others may grow weary with things that afflict. Disease, trials, affliction can bring a deep loneliness to those afflicted as walking away from it is not an option. We strive to move from moment to moment bearing the physical pain of our bodies as well as the emotional pain of not knowing why we suffer.

The account of the woman with the issue of blood tells us that she had dealt with her affliction for 12 years seeking out remedies and cures from all the medical knowledge of the time to no avail. The moment captured in this scene is immediately after she has touched the hem of Jesus’ robe. Jesus’ expression shares with us that he has already felt the healing power in him flow into another soul. This transference occurred without a formal petition from the woman.

It seems that the power of faith was the conduit through which the healing power flowed. Only after she was healed did he ask her to share her healing with the crowd. Maybe somewhat hesitantly she came forward. Imagine looking into Jesus’ eyes and expressing gratitude too great for words and feeling his deep knowing, compassionate, love.

Thoughts from Angela Johnson

Luke 8: 43-48

43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,

44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.

45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
