    About This Piece

Through the wonderful medium of art I created a setting where Jesus is tenderly watching hens gather their chicks. In the depiction we can contemplate the merciful condescension of God. In his lament over Jerusalem, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered you even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings and ye would not.”, he uses the metaphor of the devoted way a mother hen gathers her chicks under her wings. It has always amazed me that Jesus chose this visual of tenderness to express how he feels about us.

Thoughts from Angela Johnson

Matthew 23: 37

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
